Steel, bronze, copper, paint

The question mark is a profound symbol pertinent to our current time of biased perspectives. While the apple and the serpent do make reference to original sin, I believe it makes other multiple references such as the question of our advancement in AI technology. Should we bite that apple? My sculpture, QUESTION, is not meant as a les

Gun bluing was used to create contrasting squares on a steel chess board that was suspended from the ceiling by a steel rod and stabilized by an inverted steel triangle under the chessboard. The piece was shown at Fredericksburg Center for the Creative Arts and received positive reviews

Artist Statement

When I first learned to cast metal at Virginia Commonwealth University, I was immediately fascinated with the process. As my exposure to the world of art expanded, my art grew and evolved. Influenced by artists such as; Merce Cunningham, JeanTinguely, and Cristo Javacheff. I discovered Performance Art. Eventually, my love for casting and Performance Art merged as demonstrated by several photos in the Photo Gallery section.

After graduating, I returned to my hometown of Fredericksburg and sought employment. Each job required skills associated with some form of metal working such as hand forging, casting, or mold making. While working, I continued to participate in the Arts. I was a member of the Fredericksburg Center for the Arts and the Washington Project for the Arts and received numerous awards, several commissions, and reviews in the Freelance Star. Additionally, I exhibited at Virginia Commonwealth University, the Renee Reston Gallery, the Premiere Gallery, the Fredericksburg Center for the Creative Arts, the Eyeclops Studio, and the Coincidence Gallery. At the request of an art professor at Mary Washington University, I taught a summer workshop in mold making.

Now retired, I am free to resume art and sculpture more fully. I enjoy conceiving of an idea and process of creating its physical expression. By merging my art education, job skills, and innate ability with life experience, I have become dedicated to combining form, style, function and concept as suited to its creation.
