Mould Making

Alex has made moulds ranging from 10 feet to one inch tall. The sculptures that he has moulded have been made from a variety of materials such as plasticine, wood, wax, and marble without losing detail. Being a sculptor has allowed Alex to have a more intimate relationship with mouldmaking. He has developed a variety of techniques such as blanket moulds, paint-on moulds, and moulds with built-in registration. The materials that he uses in his moulds are equally diverse, ranging from latex to silicone. His talent and versatility have made him a prominent moulder in the mid-Atlantic region.

Through the course of his career, he has created hundreds of moulds for such accomplished artists as John Cavanaugh, Terry Karselis, and Adolph Sering.

Presently, Alex forms his moulds using high-strength silicon rubber reinforced by hydrocal (plaster) jackets. If required, he can make epoxy jackets to be used for applications such as concrete. Alex’s moulds are primarily used for wax, concrete, epoxy, plaster, and pewter creations.
